There is a particular kind of quiet that arrives in Vail during fall. The busiest weeks of summer have passed, ski season has not yet taken over, and East Vail settles into a slower rhythm of cool mornings, mountain views, changing landscapes, and considerably more room to think.
For a small team approaching year-end planning, or simply for someone who can work from somewhere other than the usual desk, that change of scenery can be surprisingly useful.
A fall stay at Vail Racquet Club Mountain Resort does not have to mean putting work aside. Instead, it can change everything happening around the workday.
Work. Walk. Workout. Repeat.
That can be enough to make a couple of days in the mountains feel very different from another week at the office.
Give the Year-End Conversation Some Room
October and November naturally bring certain conversations to the surface. What worked this year? What needs to change? Which projects deserve attention next? Where should the team focus when January arrives?
Those conversations do not necessarily require a ballroom, a large conference center, or several days of programmed meetings. For smaller leadership groups, remote teams, and colleagues who simply need time together, a more personal mountain setting can make sense.
Our peaceful East Vail location feels distinctly removed from the activity of Vail Village while keeping town within easy reach. Surrounded by mountain peaks, aspens, and Gore Creek, the resort spans 22 acres and offers the kind of environment where stepping away from normal routines actually feels possible.
For companies coming from Denver and the Front Range, Vail is also close enough to make a one- or two-night working getaway practical without turning the retreat into a complicated travel day.
Your “Meeting Room” Does Not Always Need to Be a Meeting Room
Smaller work retreats call for a different kind of space.
Our one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos and townhomes include full kitchens and living areas, providing more room to settle in than a conventional hotel room. A morning conversation can happen around the dining table. Someone can catch up on emails from the living area. Colleagues sharing a larger accommodation can still retreat to separate bedrooms when the workday is finished.
That residential setup is particularly useful for remote workers staying several days, when having somewhere to work, prepare meals, relax, and sleep without doing everything from the edge of a hotel bed starts to matter.
Work. Walk. Workout. Repeat.
The point of working remotely from Vail is not to pretend that work disappears.
You will still have meetings. Emails will still arrive. Deadlines will remain deadlines. What changes is what happens between them.
Finish a morning call and step outside for fresh air. Take a midday walk near Gore Creek. Put in another focused stretch of work, then close the laptop and head to our Athletic Club.
Guests staying through the resort receive complimentary Athletic Club access, including a 6,000-square-foot fitness facility, a year-round heated outdoor pool, outdoor hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and fitness and yoga classes. A typical workday can therefore end with a workout, swim, yoga class, or hot tub rather than another hour sitting in traffic.
And when schedules allow, East Vail’s surrounding trails make it possible to replace the coffee-break walk around the block with something considerably more memorable.
Stay Quietly in East Vail, Head Into Town When You Want To
A retreat does not have to mean isolating the team.
Vail Racquet Club has two stops on the Town of Vail’s complimentary bus system, so guests can travel between East Vail and Vail Village without needing to drive into town and search for parking. You can keep the workday focused and quiet, then head into the Village for dinner or an evening out when everyone is ready for a change of scene.
Our resort amenities also keep plenty close to home. When open for its seasonal operating period, Après Cafe provides an on-property restaurant and bar for salads, sandwiches, entrées, handmade pizzas, drinks, and a relaxed end to the day.
A Retreat for One Works, Too
Not every fall work retreat needs a company itinerary.
If you work remotely, run your own business, or simply have flexibility for a few days, consider extending the weekend in the opposite direction. Arrive before everyone else heads to the mountains, open the laptop from your condo for a few productive days, and let the hours before and after work belong to Vail.
There can be a morning workout before the first call, a walk between projects, dinner in your condo or nearby, and a hot tub at the end of the day. The work still gets done. The workday simply has better edges.
Make the Next Planning Session Something Different
Year-end planning will happen somewhere. It can happen under fluorescent office lights, or it can happen during a few quieter days when the team has enough distance from its normal routine to concentrate, reconnect, review the year, celebrate what went well, and talk seriously about what comes next.
Vail Racquet Club Mountain Resort is not trying to turn that experience into a traditional conference-resort stay. The appeal is simpler: comfortable accommodations, mountain surroundings, recreation, wellness, easy access to Vail, and enough breathing room to make a small retreat feel worthwhile.
